Clave Law

1) All non-offensive capability body armor is almost universally legal.
a. Coalition helmets and the Death’s Head motif are illegal unless suitably modified to prevent association with the Coalition States (by a rational person at a quick glance).
b. Face-coverings helmets and masks are legal in deference to the perpetual cold, but conditionally illegal (making any crime committed while wearing one and/or trying to disguise identity a compounded offence).
2) All SDC ranged weapons are legal with a permit for the user (non-weapon specific) to possess.
3) All SDC melee weapons are legal to possess.
4) MDC weapons (melee or ranged) are legal with a permit for the user (non-weapon specific) to possess, but said weapons must also be individually registered.
5) Discharging a weapon in non-designated areas is illegal but subject to the discretion of law enforcement.
6) Using a weapon to cause property damage (including missing the guy you’re attacking) is illegal.
7) Augmented humans are required to register to enter the Wall. Failure to register leads to almost automatic exile, death if resisted. This includes anyone within the Wall with any supernatural ability, including psionics or magic. Registration is not required outside the Wall.
8) Duels.
a. All duel challenges can be refused without legal repercussion.
b. Making a challenge requires registering the challenge with the Office of Duels, two witnesses and a solo interview with an official. Accepting a challenge requires the same.
c. All duels are officiated by the Office of Duels except duels to first blood (though they can be if requested).
i. A death in a duel to first blood, unofficiated, is considered a murder and usually results in exile or execution.
ii. Accidentally killing a dueling official is murder without malice. Intentionally endangering a dueling official (like using them for cover) is considered attempted murder with malice.
d. Types of Duels
i. First Blood. Usually melee weapons, no armor.
ii. Satisfaction. Usually melee weapons, no armor.
iii. Yield. Usually melee weapons, armor permitted.
iv. Death (very rare). Anything goes. Usually these are required to take place in the wilderness, depending on the weapon choices.
9) Citizens’ Rights—Charter Law
a. The Council shall make no law abridging the rights to free speech, peaceful assembly, or participation in government, of its citizens, so long as exercise of such rights remains peaceful, truthful, and without malice.
b. All accused peoples have the right to trial by jury, the right to have their accuser named, and the right to competent legal representation. The Clave shall provide such representation if the accused is unable to provide it themselves.
c. All citizens have a right to remain silent in regards to accusations against them. Compelling confessions to personal wrongs through intimidation, physical or mental abuse, or other means of coercion are strictly forbidden. Lawmakers and enforcers must be equally subject to all laws, as all are citizens.
d. Citizens have the right to remain secure in their bodies, minds, possessions, and domiciles and all shall not be subject to search or confiscation without probably cause and due process.
e. Slavery shall not be permitted. All slaves, upon crossing into the Clave’s sphere of influence shall be considered free people held under duress.
f. Citizens have a right to petition the Council for redress of legitimate grievances.
g. Natives of Yoshugoku officially processed and registered with the Clave shall be considered citizens of the Clave for the duration of their permitted stay, and subject to the laws and rights of the Clave.
h. All citizens have the right to possess tools for self-defense. In the interest of public safety, use of such or possession of unreasonable quantities may be subject to law.
